Our certification was created to meet real-world deployment demands where other standards fall short. The key differences are our realism and rigor. We require teams to pass tests in complex environments that others don’t, including locating sources buried 6 feet deep, hidden in 40-foot debris piles, and discriminating between multiple stages of decomposition. Furthermore, every handler must pass a written science-based exam, and our standards are overseen by a board of doctors, forensic experts, and veterinarians—a level of scientific oversight not found elsewhere.
$0. It is completely free. We believe that a team’s quality should be based on skill and merit, not their ability to pay. Therefore, we never charge for certification, membership, or deployment. We operate under the principle that families and agencies in crisis should never receive a bill for K9 assistance.
You can request a team by contacting us directly through our website or on our emergency line. ICDDC teams respond only to official deployment requests from agencies such as fire departments, law enforcement, emergency management, and medical examiner offices. We also work with authorized civilian coordinators who are operating in direct partnership with a standing authority. We actively monitor impending disasters and often reach out to agencies in projected impact zones to establish contact beforehand.
ICDDC certification is for any dedicated and serious K9 handler, whether professional or volunteer, who is committed to meeting the highest global standard. Eligibility is not determined by affiliation, but by performance. Any handler and their K9 partner who can successfully pass our rigorous, multi-faceted field examinations and the mandatory written handler exam can earn their certification. We are looking for teams who believe in truth before glory and are committed to ethical, effective, and scientifically sound detection work.
